What Moved the Markets
Markets spent the past three days held hostage by the Iran crisis. Crude oil surged past $115 as Trump's Tuesday 8 p.m. deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz approached, with escalating rhetoric — including threats against civilian infrastructure — crushing risk appetite.
The S&P 500 fell as much as 1.3% intraday Tuesday before recovering late in the session on ceasefire hopes, closing essentially flat. In a dramatic eleventh-hour reversal, Trump announced a two-week "double-sided ceasefire" brokered by Pakistan's PM Sharif, with Iran agreeing to allow safe passage through Hormuz and presenting a 10-point peace proposal the U.S. called "workable."
Peace talks led by VP Vance are set for Friday in Islamabad. S&P futures immediately jumped over 2%, and oil dropped roughly 15% on the news.
Crude Oil EW Analysis
Our cycle analysis a few days ago indicated that crude oil could be forming a peak of sorts.
Yesterday, after the news of a potential ceasefire between the US and Iran, CL quickly dropped about 15%.
Although I am not sure which of the three Elliott wave counts is in play, they all call for lower.
The green count, after the pullback, could lead to much higher prices in the future.
