What was dominating the news:
Trump threatened Canada with 100% tariff if PM Mark Carney finalizes a deal with China. “Governor” Carney caved again.
Potential US Government shutdown on 30 January.
The Trump administration (via CMS) proposed raising Medicare Advantage reimbursement rates by only ~0.09% (essentially flat/virtually unchanged vs. expectations for bigger increases).
UnitedHealth issued softer-than-expected 2026 revenue guidance alongside Q4 results that met estimates.
This sparked a broader healthcare sell-off: Humana dropped >20%, CVS Health shed ~10–14%, reflecting investor concerns over policy headwinds for private Medicare plans.
META Cycles
Meta Platforms (#META) will report earnings after market close.
Key to watch: AI infrastructure spending, ad revenue, and capex guidance amid high expectations for returns on AI investments.

What’s Next for the Stock Market?
DJI fell 0.83% while SPX gained 0.41, helped by a strength in techs ahead of META, MSFT, and TSLA earnings releases.
DJI weakness was at least in part due to a 20% drop in UNH stock; maybe a time to revisit UNH.
A combination of the FED Day and earnings releases from the three Magnificent 7 stocks may produce some fireworks in the market on Wednesday and Thursday; be aware of potential whipsaws.
