We usually cover gold and silver, but there are other precious metals opportunities. Today I will look at Palladium.
Palladium is considered a relatively rare precious metal. It is rarer than gold and silver. When comparing palladium to gold, palladium is thirty times rarer and has sometimes been worth more per troy ounce.
Palladium has been used as a precious metal in jewelry since 1939 as an alternative to platinum in the alloys called "white gold", where the naturally white color of palladium does not require rhodium plating.
More than half the supply of palladium and its congener platinum is used in catalytic converters, which convert as much as 90% of the harmful gases in automobile exhaust (hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen dioxide) into nontoxic substances (nitrogen, carbon dioxide and water vapor).
Palladium is also used in electronics, dentistry, medicine, hydrogen purification, chemical applications, and groundwater treatment.
Palladium is a key component of fuel cells, in which hydrogen and oxygen react to produce electricity, heat, and water.
Palladium Cycles Outlook
Palladium’s price dropped about 70% since 2022.
It is worth exploring it as a value play, but need to make sure it is not a value trap.
The price pattern suggests a bottoming process that may not be completed yet.
The daily cycle composite suggest that about 60-week cycle dominates and is expected to have the next cycle trough in Q2’2025, which will be good time to re-examine palladium opportunity.
The weekly cycle composite indicates a cycle trough in the first half of 2027, which is dominated by the well known 3.5-years cycle.
